WHAT IS IT?
Indian Head massage has been practised in India for over a thousand years. Traditionally, the massage concentrated on the head and hair, however techniques (especially those used in the West) now include the neck, shoulders and upper arms.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The head, neck and shoulders are important energy zones within the body. If you are feeling stressed or angry, tension tends to accumulate. This tension later rears its' ugly head in the form of stiff neck and shoulders, eye strain and sometimes even hair loss. Indian Head massage involves working with a firm yet gentle rhythm to help unknot blockages and relieve the uncomfortable build-up of tension. As well as working physically, this is a holistic therapy which works on an emotional level too, calming the spirit, promoting relaxation and relieving stress.
HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER A TREATMENT?
Experiencing an Indian Head Massage normally leaves the client taking a deep breath, saying aaaahhh, and having a beaming smile. It is normal to want to drink more water, as this is due to toxins in the body being released. Any tension usually vanishes, and clients tend to feel an enormous sense of peace. Sleep that evening usually tends to be deep and restful. Most people discover they have more energy, can think more clearly, feel generally more positive and get less headaches and upper back tension.
WHAT DO I DO AFTER A TREATMENT?
Ideally, you should try to take things easy, try to have the treatment on a day that is particularly quiet so that you can reap the benefits hours later. Try to avoid caffeinated drinks and processed foods for 24 hrs after. Increase your water content, to keep yourself as hydrated as possible.
WHAT CAN INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE BE USED TO TREAT?
- Headaches
- Insomnia and sleep problems
- Stress, anxiety, depression
- Scalp and hair conditions
- Sinusitis
- Tinitus
- Temporo-mandibular joint tension-caused by grinding or clenching teeth
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?
For acute conditions, for instance someone suffering with intense headaches, once a week is usually sufficient to help and see benefits fairly quickly. For general health and well being a monthly or fortnightly treatment can work wonders to keep your mind, body and spirit at its' natural, healthy balance.
