WHAT IS IT AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Emotional Freedom Technique (or EFT) is an energy meridian therapy. It is sometimes also known as Psychological or Emotional Acupressure as it involves tapping with the fingers on the body’s meridian points to release energy blocks from the system.
All emotional and mental issues (and most, if not all, physical ones) are created by an imbalance or ‘short-circuit’ in the meridian pathways. Everything we ever experience is recorded in our body, much as on a PC hard drive and the uncomfortable, traumatic or unhelpful experiences can create these imbalances. EFT involves tapping on the meridian points whilst stating the problem out loud. This process clears the imbalance, permanently releasing the issue from the body’s energy system.
WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION?
During the first session, or any subsequent session where we address a new problem, we will spend as much time as we need investigating around the problem. By taking the time to home in on the relevant aspects of the core issue (the root cause of the problem), healing becomes much quicker and simpler. We will then formulate a statement to work with, focussing on one of these aspects. I will show you the tapping points so that you can tap on yourself, following my lead and we will continue working with the issue until it has been completely released. Very often this happens extremely quickly and we can then move on to the next aspect. At the end of the session, we will usually agree some positive statements for you to tap in on yourself at home.
You will also be taught how to use EFT on yourself at home, to release any simple issues as they arise and to prevent them creating further imbalances in your energy system.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL IT TAKE?
Many issues are resolved after just one session, although some deep-rooted or complex problems may require more time. It is rare that more than 3 or 4 sessions are ever needed to resolve a specific issue, however with physical problems particularly, this can happen. If this is the case it is important to understand that, with EFT, persistence is the key. Working on the issue yourself between sessions will often speed up release.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF IT HAS WORKED?
The intensity of the feeling or belief is measured before and after the rounds. When this intensity drops to zero it has been released completely. The memory of it will remain but there will be no emotional charge left attached to it. Many people receive sudden insights or experience feelings of relief or lightness.
WHAT CAN BE TREATED?
The ‘inventor’ of EFT, Gary Craig, has a famous saying ‘Try it on everything’ and it can indeed be used very successfully on any issue, whether physical, mental, emotional or spiritual.
In particular, EFT has a successful track record in treating:
Trauma (including PTSD) Stress, anxiety and panic Issues of self-confidence, self-belief and self sabotage Sexual problems Performance improvement Weight issues and eating problems Self- and body-image Phobias Addictions and food cravings Unhelpful habits, thought & behaviour patterns Physical issues, especially chronic illness such as arthritis, diabetes or asthma.
